Industrial safety in machinery, a fundamental pillar of the industrial sector

Industrial safety integration in machinery - TICE Ingenieros Group

Industrial safety is one of the most important pillars of the industrial sector.

Industrial Safety has become established as one of the most critical aspects within organisations in the sector. All companies must adhere to a set of regulations or requirements. In this way, a safe working environment is ensured and general guidelines for managing existing risks are established.

The CE Marking Industrial Machinery, a set of guidelines and regulations for application provide the user with confidence that these devices are secure from the moment they are activated.

We could already have an approximate idea of what the CE Marking within the scope of Industrial Machinery. However, we will attempt to develop a more comprehensive understanding of this topic.

What objectives does the implementation of seek to achieve? CE Marking in Industrial Machinery?

  • Facilitate the sale of machinery on the market.
  • While ensuring health and safety in the workplace, always in compliance with a set of unified standards.

Therefore, the design and manufacture of a machine must comply with the relevant harmonised standards in order for it to be placed on the market and operated. And this is applicable not only for its individual activation. There could be situations where certain machines, even though they have their respective CE marked, must be reassessed in terms of risk when they interact in a shared environment, such as a robotic cell. In these cases, additional adaptations may be necessary to ensure they continue to comply with current regulations. In other circumstances, machines may have specific uses and require the intervention of a Notified Body in the conformity assessment process, as is the case with Annex IV of the Machinery Directive.

It is in these scenarios that they are of great importance MACHINERY DIRECTIVE 2006/42/EC, Directives such as the LOW VOLTAGE DIRECTIVE 73/23/EC, the ELECTROMAGNETIC COMPATIBILITY DIRECTIVE and ROYAL DECREE 1644/2008 they establish a set of requirements focused on ensuring essential health and safety conditions. However, these regulations do not impose or recommend specific technical solutions; rather, they grant the manufacturer complete freedom to develop their own solutions, as long as they meet the minimum requirements established.

This type of project is developed through a series of general phases that are adapted according to the project's scope. Their classification can be presented in two distinct groups according to their scope:

  • Risk assessment of specific machinery for non-manufacturing companies.
  • Document management of CE marked to machine manufacturers.

To achieve good industrial safety on machines, the following phases should be followed:

  1. Define the limits of the machine to be evaluated, including its intended use and its reasonably foreseeable misuse. To do this, information provided by the client is collected and studied, in order to subsequently evaluate the regulations that apply to the case in question.
  2. Carry out an identification and assessment of the risks. Subsequently, a technical assessment report will be drafted, the primary function of which will be to communicate the results obtained to the client. This phase applies only to the first group of projects. If it is not favourable, a series of adjustments to the machine are proposed and carried out so that it can comply with the minimum safety requirements.
  3. Creation of a technical file in accordance with Annex VII of the MACHINERY DIRECTIVE 2006/42/EC, and which includes documents such as the User Manual or the EC Declaration of Conformity, among others.

Porque el objetivo siempre debe ir encaminado hacia la achieving specific conditions in the workplace that allow for maximum safety and health, and minimise risks arising from interaction with the environment. And for this, the correct application of the process of CE Marking Yes, it is, to a large extent, necessary and important.
