How to solve model changes in pallet racking?
The functions of a warehouse are not limited to storage; the good condition of the facilities and the safety of the operators must also be guaranteed. This is achieved through a service for the prevention, evaluation, maintenance, and development of protection systems. This way, we will avoid possible damage to both personnel and stored goods. In this article, we will look at a success story where a solution is applied to a change in the model for pallet racking systems.
Furthermore, the continuous advancement of the industry leads us to constant improvement in both processes and material models, rendering what was previously valid obsolete.
The example in question is not just a change in the model, but a complete abandonment of its manufacture, as well as a change in the manufacturing process for shelving components, moving from welded to bolted.

This change is largely represented by the ease of changing damaged components.
A customer is experiencing the problem that their shelving units are obsolete, making it impossible for them to resolve detected issues. Warehouse Technical Inspection (WTI)
This issue is very common in older installations, where even if they are in good condition, a considerable amount of time has passed since their initial installation.
Background
From TICE Engineers Group S.L. We've devised a warehouse rejuvenation system.
Before the problem can be solved, a study is carried out in which the different models and brands that have appeared over the years are identified.
Once the warehouse is parameterised and the “age” checked, a proposal for its renewal is made.
To achieve this, the areas where issues need to be resolved are checked, and we carry out a “collection of materials.” Complete sections were dismantled, and this discontinued material is used for repairing other affected areas that initially had no solution due to a lack of materials. The void left is replaced with material from the predominant model in the rest of the warehouse, which is a model easily acquired on the current market.
Work carried out for the rejuvenation plan
- Study of shelving models.
- Parameterisation of systems.
- Study of the client's current needs.
- Plan for progressive and prolonged low-impact change over time.
Conclusion
Through this process, we achieve:
- Reduce maintenance costs and foresee long-term investments.
- Less impact on warehouse operations. It doesn't stop the warehouse completely; work continues by zones.
- Reduce waste with an improved environmental impact for the operational facility.
From our perspective, we are a multi-brand engineering firm, which allows us to adapt to any situation and material, always siding with our clients and defending their interests. We always guarantee the safety of their warehouse and their operators.
