Within the industrial sector, we can apply safety to many different branches. In this blog, we usually talk to you about the Industrial safety applied to machines to achieve their conformity (also called RD1215/97Today, on the contrary, we want to talk to you about the importance of personal protective equipment in Industrial Safety as well.
Just as machines must be safe, workplaces must also be places that guarantee the safety and health of workers. Depending on the sector we are in, meeting safety requirements will be a more or less simple task due to the risks that workers may be exposed to. In the industrial sector, we can find multiple types of risks to which workers are exposed. This is why personal protective equipment is of vital importance to guarantee the full safety of workers. This protective equipment is governed by the Royal Decree 773/1997.
Personal protective equipment (PPE) is responsible for preventing or minimising risks and ensuring the safety and health of workers when faced with any risk. This protective equipment will be provided to workers and will be appropriate for the risks they may encounter.

Although there are multiple protective equipment items, the most common ones we can find are:
- Safety gloves: these are responsible for protecting the hands from any mechanical, thermal, or chemical risk.
- Safety footwear: specially designed to protect feet from injuries caused by heavy objects, oil, heat, electricity, etc.
- Height protection equipment: these are the necessary equipment to work safely in vertical work and at heights to prevent possible falls.
- Hearing protectors: these are the devices responsible for protecting the ears from noise. For example, helmets, earmuffs and/or earplugs to reduce the effects of noise and prevent ear damage.
- Safety helmets or caps: these are the pieces of equipment responsible for protecting the head from impacts.
- Eye and face protection: these are safety glasses, welding shields and visors. They are designed to protect the eyes and face in certain situations.
- Face masks, masks, or half-face masks: these are the pieces of equipment to ensure respiratory protection.
