Today we want to talk to you about one of the most important aspects of industrial safety: Occupational Risk Prevention. Law 54/2003introduced introduced various amendments to the regulatory framework for companies regarding the previous Law 31/1995 on Occupational Risk Prevention. Among these amendments, if we had to highlight one, it would be the obligation for companies to draft and implement a Prevention Plan with the aim of translating effective occupational safety and health protection from theory into practice.
The Prevention Plan can be defined as a set of guidelines that regulate and detail all the actions and policies through which preventive measures will be integrated into the organization’s overall management system. It plays an essential role, as it outlines the objectives to be achieved and the necessary measures to be implemented to ensure safety.
The Occupational Safety and Health Manager (commonly referred to as PRL) is directly responsible for overseeing all health and safety matters concerning the company’s employees and for drafting, updating, and implementing the Prevention Plan we discussed earlier.
Here are the 10 most common duties performed by an occupational safety and health manager:
- Monitoring and managing workers' health.
- Developing measures, work procedures, and assessments to reduce and control risks.
- PPE Management.
- Drafting of documents required by law.
- Monitoring of safety and environmental standards.
- Proposals for measures to control and reduce the associated risks.
- Emergency response plans and drills.
- Ensure and promote compliance with current occupational safety and health regulations.
- Development of work procedures, technical reports, and accident investigations.
- Workplace safety training for employees.
We often don’t realize it, but one of the biggest risks or safety issues stems from the interaction between workers and the machinery on the factory floor. At TICE Ingenieros, we assist occupational risk prevention (ORP) managers with industrial machine safety. We act as an extension of your team, offering consulting services to obtain the CE Marking and to bring machinery into compliance with Royal Decree 1215/97.
