Sustainable Engineering and the ARPLAST SL Success Story

The machine adaptation project at ARPLAST SL: An example of sustainable engineering

At Grupo TICE Ingenieros, we are proud to share the success story of our client ARPLAST SL, a company based in Alaquas, Valencia, which is dedicated to manufacture of sustainable packaging and thermoformed solutions 100%. This project consisted of suitability of four cardboard tube making machines, achieving not only improved operational efficiency but also guaranteeing the safety and sustainability of industrial processes.

Sustainable Engineering: The Path to a Responsible Future

Sustainable engineering is fundamental to the development of solutions that are not only efficient, but also environmentally friendly. At Grupo TICE, we firmly believe in sustainable development engineering, and our projects, such as ARPLAST SL, are tangible proof of our commitment to sustainability.

The importance of sustainable civil engineering

The Sustainable civil engineering plays a crucial role in creating infrastructure that minimises environmental impact. At Grupo TICE, we apply these principles in each of our projects, ensuring our solutions contribute to a greener future.

Sustainable Industrial Engineering: Beyond Efficiency

The sustainable industrial engineering It not only seeks operational efficiency but also waste reduction and the responsible use of resources. We implement strategies ranging from adapting machinery to optimising industrial processes, ensuring that each project has a positive impact on the environment.

Case study: ARPLAST SL

The project involved the retrofitting of four cardboard tube manufacturing machines, specifically a tube cutting saw, a machine for gluing paper sheeting onto the tube, an upper beading machine and a lower beading machine, at a factory producing sustainable packaging and thermoformed solutions (100%) using recycled, biodegradable and compostable plastic and cardboard materials in Alaquas, Valencia.

How do we approach sustainable engineering in this case?

Previously, an on-site risk assessment was carried out for the 4 teams., We take data, evaluate, and correct using solutions. A posteriori, documentation and a technical-economic offer with the proposed solutions, the performance report and offer were provided.

Following this, we carried out a performance report on the equipment, which they accepted, and the following month we completed the assembly and commissioning (PEM).

Here are the solutions implemented on each team:

  1. SAW BLADE
  • Installation of a control panel next to the equipment with run, stop and emergency stop functions, screwed to the saw's structure.
  • The customer will install the pedal board on top to keep their hand busy.
  • Placement of danger pictogram for risk of cuts or electrical sectioning on a location next to the equipment.

Sustainable engineering

  1. Frozen equipment
  • Labelling of the Chinese/English push-button plate to Spanish for improved readability in case of danger
  • Yellow emergency stop label
  • Flue for gas conduction with opening for refilling, and a 3D printed cap
  • Fencing with a 40x40 square profile structure with a top opening to allow adjustment from the upper steering wheel. The fencing will have adjustable legs and will rest on some parts of the machine. There will be a sliding side door to access the roller area for removing jams. This door has an interlocking device.
  • Cover for the gear access opening, secured with a screwed 1.5 mm metal plate to prevent access
  • To prevent access, a mesh can be placed in the front area. With 20x20 profiles and screwed to the machine's structure.
  • Placement of a pictogram for entrapment hazard and electrical risk next to the equipment.

  1. TOP BORDEr
  • Labelling of the Chinese/English push-button plate to Spanish for improved readability in case of danger
  • Yellow emergency stop label
  • Placement of a pictogram for entrapment hazard and electrical risk next to the equipment.
  • Disconnect the drives from the cylinder to prevent drives.
  • The entire perimeter of the machine will be fenced off, leaving access only to the area where cardboard rolls are inserted and removed. Access to moving parts will be prevented to avoid entrapment. A door with an interlock will be added in case access is required for adjustments.
  • Add a stop push-button along with its identification label to the control circuit of the equipment.

  1. Lowering mechanism
  • Labelling of the Chinese/English push-button plate to Spanish for improved readability in case of danger
  • Yellow emergency stop label
  • Placement of a pictogram for entrapment hazard and electrical risk next to the equipment.
  • The entire perimeter of the machine shall be fenced, with access only permitted to the area where cardboard rolls are inserted and removed. Access to moving parts will be prevented to avoid the risk of trapping. A door with an interlock can be added if access is required for adjustments.
  • To be able to insert and remove the rolls, a manual lining system is proposed where the operator will push the roll through the guides onto the rotating platform. There will be guides at the start and end of the machine.
  • Add a stop push-button along with its identification label to the control circuit of the equipment.

Environmental engineering

The Sustainable engineering refers to the practice of designing and operating systems in a way that uses resources efficiently and minimises negative environmental impacts. This includes the Sustainable civil engineering, which focuses on building infrastructure that is durable, efficient, and environmentally friendly.

Engineering for sustainable development

Engineering for sustainable development it is a holistic approach that considers not only the economic viability of projects but also their social and environmental impact. The Sustainability engineers play a crucial role in the implementation of practices that promote the sustainability in the long term.

Every year, the World Engineering Day for Sustainable Development It reminds us of the importance of engineering in creating solutions that promote a sustainable future. This day is an opportunity to recognise and celebrate the achievements of Sustainability engineers and its contribution to the improvement of our quality of life and the protection of the environment.

The importance of sustainable industrial engineering

In the field of sustainable industrial engineering, the objective is to optimise industrial processes to be more efficient and less harmful to the environment. This includes everything from waste reduction to improved energy efficiency, ensuring that industrial operations do not compromise the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.

But, Sustainable engineering And how is it applied in practice? Sustainable engineering This involves integrating sustainability principles into all stages of the design, construction, and operation of systems and infrastructure. This means considering factors such as the use of recyclable materials, energy efficiency, and waste minimisation from the project's inception.

The Sustainable development engineering It not only focuses on technical solutions, but also on promoting a cultural shift towards sustainability. Through education, innovation, and collaboration, engineering has the power to transform the way we interact with our environment and ensure a more sustainable future for all.
