Therefore, many workers are exposed daily to sound levels that are not only considerably high but also dangerous, as on the one hand they can affect their health, which can be translated into a decrease in the company's productivity.<\/p><p style=\"text-align: left;\">A clear example is the <strong>Air compressors<\/strong>. The friction that arises during the compression process not only causes annoying noise but also an increase in temperature.<\/p><p style=\"text-align: left;\">This is the case a client presented to us. They had a compressor room that generated noise which hindered the proper functioning of the offices located in a nearby building.<\/p><p style=\"text-align: left;\">This is a very common problem in industrial installations where engine rooms, offices and staff \u201cdo not coexist well\u201d.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-71307f3 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"71307f3\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Background<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-e4a9cef elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"e4a9cef\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Before we could resolve the noise problem, we needed to know the <strong>Noise pollution level<\/strong> Inside the facilities. To achieve this, we diagnose the degree of compliance with the requirements described by noise and vibration exposure regulations.<\/p><p style=\"text-align: left;\">The creation of noise maps within industrial plants gave us an assessment of sound levels and their exposure by zones and locations.<\/p><p style=\"text-align: left;\">These data allowed us to develop tailor-made solutions, creating a plan of action for the short, medium, and long term.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-83ec5de elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"83ec5de\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Preventative measures to avoid unnecessary noise<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-eaf1829 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"eaf1829\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p style=\"text-align: left;\">As we were saying, the first step is<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.grupo-tice.com\/en\/areas\/acoustics-and-industrial-anti-vibration-systems\/ingenieria-acustica-estudios-acusticos-y-mediciones\/\">evaluate<\/a> the level of noise produced in the workplace<\/strong> during work time, that is, exposure time.<\/p><p style=\"text-align: left;\">Noise is measured and expressed using a sound level meter in decibels (dB), with the A-weighted normalisation, and will be expressed with the acronyms <strong>dB(A).<\/strong><\/p><p style=\"text-align: left;\">Spanish legislation requires the implementation of preventive measures if daily equivalent noise levels of 80 dB(A) and peak levels of 140 dB are exceeded.<\/p><ul style=\"text-align: left;\"><li><strong>If the noise exceeds 80 dB(A) equivalent daily level<\/strong>, The worker must be informed and trained on the risks related to noise exposure and on how to prevent them (working methods, protections, etc.). An initial audiological assessment and periodic checks are carried out, the results are reported, and hearing protectors are provided to those who request them.<\/li><li><strong>If the noise exceeds the 85 dB(A) daily equivalent level<\/strong>, In addition to the measures from the previous point, regular hearing checks (every three years) must be carried out, and hearing protection must be supplied to the workers.<\/li><li><strong>If the noise exceeds 90 dB(A) equivalent daily level and 140 dB peak<\/strong>, In addition to the above measures, it is necessary to investigate the causes of these limits being exceeded, implement technical measures to reduce noise propagation, carry out annual hearing function checks, and restrict access to the affected workstations; all workers must use hearing protection.<\/li><\/ul><p style=\"text-align: left;\">To do this, we take the <strong>measures<\/strong> necessary with the teams idle:<\/p><p style=\"text-align: left;\">Measurement M0-RF: Background noise measured 1m from the area of stationary equipment and compressors. Measurement M1: 1m from the main focal point.<\/p><p style=\"text-align: left;\">Measurement M2 \u2013 Noise in room at 1m from bottom floor door<\/p><p style=\"text-align: left;\">Measurement M3 \u2013 Noise inside room at 1m from lower floor door<\/p><p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1982 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.grupo-tice.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/image.jpg\" alt=\"Noise measurement \" width=\"668\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.grupo-tice.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/image.jpg 668w, https:\/\/www.grupo-tice.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/image-300x162.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 668px) 100vw, 668px\" \/><\/p><p style=\"text-align: left;\">Once the measurements were taken, we proceeded to measure the noise level generated, where the following data were obtained:<\/p><p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1947 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.grupo-tice.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/acustica-2.png\" alt=\"Acoustic solution measures\" width=\"586\" height=\"126\" \/><\/p><p style=\"text-align: left;\">The results obtained in the different positions were based on obtaining a reference frequency spectrum and verifying the sound pressure drop with distance. In the following table, we can observe the results obtained.<\/p><h3 style=\"text-align: left;\">Calculation of insulation<\/h3><p style=\"text-align: left;\">For the design of acoustic attenuation measures, we used measurement M1 as representative of the source, and measurement M3 as representative of the receiver.<\/p><p style=\"text-align: left;\">Calculation of the global insulation value.<\/p><p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-1954 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.grupo-tice.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/acustica-8.png\" alt=\"Calculation of the global insulation value.\" width=\"361\" height=\"641\" \/><\/p><h3 style=\"text-align: left;\">Measurement results<\/h3><p style=\"text-align: left;\">The table above shows the values of \u201cDnT\u201d at each frequency in decibels.<\/p><p style=\"text-align: left;\">The LAr,i values are given by the following table of the A-weighted normalised pink noise spectrum values of the DB-HR.<\/p><p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-1955 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.grupo-tice.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/acustica-9.png\" alt=\"Measurement results \" width=\"501\" height=\"139\" \/><\/p><p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-1956 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.grupo-tice.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/acustica-10.png\" alt=\"Current global isolation data\" width=\"231\" height=\"94\" \/><\/p><p style=\"text-align: left;\">The DnT,A obtained was 23.5 dBA. The noise had to be reduced from M3=58 dBA to 50-55 dBA, which would require an 8 dBA increase in overall insulation.<\/p><h3 style=\"text-align: left;\">Corrective measures<\/h3><p style=\"text-align: left;\">Following the data obtained, it was considered that the best solution was the implementation of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.grupo-tice.com\/en\/areas\/acoustics-and-industrial-anti-vibration-systems\/cabinas-acusticas-cerramientos-y-pantallas\/\">Acoustic cabin<\/a>, composed of absorbent, insulating panels, which would reduce noise and, in turn, the disturbance generated by it. Meanwhile, to eliminate the problem of high temperatures, a roof full of silencers would be generated.<\/p><p style=\"text-align: left;\">The aim was to achieve sufficient attenuation by installing an L-shaped enclosure and a roof around the compressors, thereby creating an acoustic booth to contain the noise generated by them while in operation. This way, their impact does not increase the existing overall background noise M0-RF, 72dBA+3Db.<\/p><p style=\"text-align: left;\">Once the solution had been implemented, the next step was to remeasure the noise, vibration, and temperature levels of the emission source to observe that we had successfully achieved noise reduction.<\/p><p style=\"text-align: left;\">From this second measurement study, we obtained the following results:<\/p><p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-1957 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.grupo-tice.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/acustica-11.png\" alt=\"According to a study measuring noise\" width=\"524\" height=\"151\" \/><\/p><p style=\"text-align: left;\">We achieved a notable reduction in higher frequencies, dropping from 60.49 to 8.49, for example, reaching an attenuation of 52.<\/p><p style=\"text-align: left;\">The noise measurement at point M1 during full machinery operation was 77.07 decibels. This achieved an overall reduction of 10dB(A) \u00b1 3dB.<\/p><p style=\"text-align: left;\">The solution of installing enclosures on the compressors increased the overall DnT,A because the noise source was reduced:<\/p><p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-1959 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.grupo-tice.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/acustica-12.png\" alt=\"Theoretical global isolation\" width=\"244\" height=\"196\" \/><\/p><p style=\"text-align: left;\">The following graph shows the attenuation comparison between L1 dB emission noise and emission noise with an enclosure:<\/p><figure id=\"attachment_1960\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1960\" style=\"width: 388px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1960 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.grupo-tice.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/acustica-13.png\" alt=\"Attenuation comparison \" width=\"388\" height=\"286\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1960\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Acoustic Enclosure Attenuation Comparison - Grupo TICE Ingenieros<\/figcaption><\/figure><p style=\"text-align: left;\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.grupo-tice.com\/en\/areas\/acoustics-and-industrial-anti-vibration-systems\/cabinas-acusticas-cerramientos-y-pantallas\/\">enclosure<\/a> the global isolation increased by 10dB(A) \u00b1 3dB, so within the receiver, the target of 50dBA was met, taking into account that the background noise remained at 72.5dB(A).<\/p><h4 style=\"text-align: left;\">3D preliminary design \u2013 Cross-section.<\/h4><p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-1961\" src=\"https:\/\/www.grupo-tice.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/acustica-14.png\" alt=\"3D preliminary design \u2013 Cross-section.\" width=\"500\" height=\"286\" \/><\/p><p style=\"text-align: left;\">Regarding the acoustic enclosure, the upper part needs to have silencers that allow room ventilation. For this purpose, they must meet the acoustic insulation condition of &gt;= 10dB and the necessary ventilation surface area.<\/p><p style=\"text-align: left;\">This heat is dissipated by ventilating the room. The amount of ventilation air is determined by the size of the compressor and the cooling method. Either water or air, hence the specification of this detail in the equipment description section.<\/p><p style=\"text-align: left;\">The ventilation air for air-cooled compressors contained approximately 95% of the energy consumed by the electric motor in the form of heat.
